CPS Energy: Central Air Conditioning, Window Air Unit and Heat Pump Rebates

Currently, CPS Energy is offering rebates when you buy and install qualifying high-efficiency central air conditioning and heat pump systems or window units.

This rebate is not available for new construction projects and only applies to home improvement or retrofit projects.  New construction projects are eligible for the New Construction, Solar Photovoltaic or Solar Water Heater Rebate programs.

Rebates for central air conditioning systems and central heat pump systems are determined by the overall seasonal energy efficiency ratio, or SEER.  Central units that qualify for a CPS Energy rebate must have a SEER rating of 15.0 or greater, as well as an EER of 12.0 or greater.  Your licensed air conditioning contractor or service technician can provide that information.

Window unit air conditioners that qualify for a rebate must be ENERGY STAR® certified.  Window units of 8,000 BTU or less qualify for a one-time $50 credit.  Window units greater than 8,000 BTU qualify for a $100 credit.

Pedernales Electric COOP HVAC Rebate Program

Are you considering replacing your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system?  Perdenales Electric Cooperative offers rebate incentives to residential members for the installation of energy-efficient HVAC systems in existing single-family homes.  To qualify for incentives, participants must meet all program eligibility criteria and satisfy all installation requirements.

A participant in PEC's HVAC Rebate Program must meet all of the following eligibility criteria to qualify for incentives:

1. Must be an existing sing-family home (new construction homes are not eligible)

2. Home must be located within PEC's service area and receive electricity from PEC

2. Participant must be a residential member or landlord (dealers may not participate)

4. Participant must complete and submit an HVAC Rebate Application (must be received within 60 days of the installation date)

Rebates are done in tiers. Not all tier levels are available for rebates at this time.

More Information on Tax Credits for Efficiency Upgrades for Small Businesses

Did you know that small businesses may be eligible for tax incentives for energy-efficiency upgrades made to commercial buildings? The way the credits work for commercial buildings (non-residences that pay taxes) is that you need to show energy saved and do not automatically get credit for installing an ENERGY STAR qualified unit or product, which is different than the way incentives are given for residential credits. Per IRS notice 179D, a tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot is available to owners or designers of new or existing commercial buildings that save at least 50% of the heating and cooling energy of a building that meets ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2001. Partial deductions of up to $.60 per square foot can be taken for measures affecting any one of three building systems: the building envelope, lighting, or heating and cooling systems. These tax deductions are available for systems placed in service from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2013. The credits are being administered by the IRS, so although Urban Heating and Air Conditioning can provide you with general information, if you need specific details you may need to speak with your accountant or a representative from the IRS. For information on what falls under the categories "building envelope, lighting, or heating and cooling systems", how to actually measure energy savings, and how to apply for the credits see the following links.
